The Best Flowering Plants For An Office

Plants that do well in low light or indirect light are best for office flowering plants. Although many offices have large windows, much of the light may be reflected from ceiling panels down into cubicles or other low-light areas. By selecting the right low-light plants, you can ensure better survival rates for your office garden plants.

The Aechemea bromeliad is a tender, tropical perennial that grows well in indirect light or shade. With pink or light blue blooms that cluster on long, tall stems, these plants are good for offices with indirect sun and fluorescent lighting. This plant is drought tolerant and begins blooming in mid-winter. As a tropical plant, the Aechmea bromeliad is only cold tolerant down to around 20 degrees F, and is not generally suitable for outdoor cultivation outside of zones 9 through 11.

Cyclamen are a family of flowers that do very well in indirect light. These small plants grow small, delicate flowers in shady areas and will do very well in offices with indirect and fluorescent lighting. The flowers of cyclamen can range in color from white to pink or even purple. Cyclamen tend to prefer cooler temperatures, and may not do well if your office is warmer than around 72 degrees F.

Peace lilies thrive in indoor conditions with low or indirect light. This plant is native to Central and South America, and prefers temperatures between 60 and 85 degrees F. Peace lilies can grow to have leaves over a foot in length and produce white flowers with yellow centers that are similar in shape to a calla lily. Peace lilies do well in most common potting soils and need to be constantly moist, but not soaking wet. Water your peace lily as soon as the top 1/4 inch of soil begins to feel a little dry.
