Care Of Pink Muhly Grass

Pink muhly grass is a flowering species of grass commonly grown as an ornamental ground cover for its bushy appearance and bright pink blossoms. It can grow up to 3 feet in height and blooms during the fall. Pink muhly grass is native to North America and is extremely drought tolerant, making it easy to grow in most temperate regions around the world.

Step 1

Plant pink muhly grass between March and August in a location that receives between 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Spread 2 inches of organic compost over the planting site and use a garden tiller to incorporate it into the soil to increase the drainage and fertility.

Step 2

Water pink muhly grass once per week during periods of drought in summer. Apply water only after at least one week with no rainfall. Pink muhly grass does not require supplemental watering during the rest of the year.

Step 3

Feed pink muhly grass three times per year using a balanced 10-10-10 NPK fertilizer. Apply once in February, again in June and one final time in September. Follow the manufacturer's directions for proper dosage.

Step 4

Spread a 2-inch layer of mulch over the soil surrounding pink muhly grass immediately after planting. Begin the mulch at least 2 inches from the base of the plants. Add more mulch as necessary to keep the layer at least 2 inches thick.
