How to Get rid of small red ants
Warning
Always use caution when working with chemicals. Always read instructions and keep away from small children and animals.
The ants come marching one by one right through your house. It doesn't matter if your house has passed the white glove inspectorial or not. Something about what you got is what they want and now there is no end in sight because the ants seem everywhere.

Understanding the ant. Ants work as a colony as a team. So they send there scouts out to find a food source. This food source can even be the sweet amber found in your wooden dresser. Once the scouts have secured a source of food they return to the nest. But these clever little fellows leave a trail behind them so they can find there way back. This is where they attack. The worker ants now follow the trail left by the scouts and they go to work collecting food and bringing it back to there queen. So how do you stop the madness? You kill the queen.
Detection, watch the ants and where the come and go from. Once you figure out there path you now know what your dealing with. And take note of there target.
On to mounting your own counter strike. Start by cleaning up and removing all potential food sources. No food, no reason to continue to come. Be sure to pay extra attention to the trail where the ants have been marching. And wash the area with a dilution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts warm water. This will remove the trail.
Take the battle outside. Purchase a general liquid pesticide and spray a barrier around your house. Repeat this step after every major rain storm.
If pesticide scare you there is another method you can use to get rid of the ant outdoors. Note this is also super effect in the garden. Mix equal parts of dry corn grits with powdered Borax. And spread around. The ants will see this as a food source and then there bodies will not be able to handle the effects of the absorption of the grits, nor will they handle the acidic response of the Borax. Thus also eliminating the queen. This method of course takes a week or two to see results. Be careful not to use around pets as the Borax can be fatal.
If this has not eased your ant problem do not waste money on ant houses. These are often ineffective and do not attract enough of the enemy. Instead there are several versions of a clear thick liquid bait solution, often times coming with little cardboard tabs with circles to fill with the solution. These are very effective but crude and bluntly disgusting. For them to work effectively you need to bring the bait to them. So where they are feeding up drop a tab. And do nothing except keep the tab full. The ants will gather the sweetness and take it back to there queen. You will see a lot of ants coming and going from your bait pile. But the nice thing about this is they will have stopped roaming for food as long as the tab is full. In about 1 week the ants will be dead.
After the bait piles are no longer touched and you do not see any more ants give everything a good clean up and dispose of the tabs. And mark this as yet again another season of ants come and gone.
