How to Oil a Vornado Rotating Fan
Vornado fans have been produced since the 1940s, and since then the brand has developed a reputation for durable, efficient and long-lasting fans and heaters. Vornado fans can be used alone or as a compliment to existing air conditioning or heating systems. As with any fan, the best way to extend the life of your Vornado model is to perform proper cleaning and maintenance on a regular basis.
Consult your Vornado fan's user manual. The manual provides important information, including how to remove the blade guard and blades, where the screws and oil wells are located and recommended lubricants.
Remove the front blade guard. While this step will vary depending on the model of Vornado fan you own, it generally requires unscrewing the screws that hold the blade guard to the fan or unclasping the clasps that hold the blade guard to the fan. Set the blade guard aside.

Remove the nut that holds the blades to the fan's motor mechanism. Remove the blades and set them aside along with the nut. Take extra care not to lose the nut.
Remove the nut that holds the rear blade guard to the fan. Remove the rear blade guard and set it and the nut aside. Again, do not lose the nut.
Unscrew the screws that hold the motor casing to the motor. Set the casing and the screws aside.

Use a soft, bristled paintbrush to remove dust and particles from the blade shaft and the motor.
Use a cleaning solvent to remove built-up debris and grease on the blade shaft if necessary. Do not get any solvent in the motor, however. Wipe the solvent from the blade shaft with a soft, dry cloth.
Add one to two drops of SAE 20 oil to the oil ports. The location of the oil ports varies by model; their locations will be shown in your Vornado fan's user manual.
Spray the blade shaft with a light coat of WD-40. Do not let the lubricant get into the fan's motor.

Replace the motor casing, rear blade guard, read blade guard nut, blades, blade nut and front blade guard.
